It’s a slightly shorter ride than usual – 17 miles – owing to the shorter winter days, but Kate has managed to cram in a couple of short, sharp climbs, some woodland singletrack, country house parkland, bridleways, downland, country lanes and a ripper of a descent back to the car park for whoever feels like it!
Anyone with a bike capable of going off road, who is happy riding up (and down!) hills is welcome. Although this is not a hugely long ride, if the weather is cold, wet and windy it might feel longer and there are a couple of short, tough climbs, the first of which is straight out of the car park. Please bring anything you feel you might need while out (snacks, spare tubes etc.) and weatherproof clothes. Tinsel optional!
Meet at the car park ready for a 10am prompt start.
Start: Pewsey Downs Car Park, Alton Barnes (the closest postcode I can find is SN8 4LB, which is for Newtown House, just before the car park).
Coming from Swindon, take the A4 out of Marlborough towards Avebury and turn off towards Lockeridge, just past Fyfield petrol station. Go through Lockeridge village, past the Who’d A Thought It pub and Kennet Valley School, and on towards Alton Barnes. The car park is about three miles on from here. Happy to message my number to anyone who wants it in case of navigational difficulty.
