About the Wichelstowe Walking Competition

In the summer of 2022, we launched a competition to find the best 8 walks in the Wichelstowe area.  Entrants could be in with a chance of winning a £50 Waitrose voucher.  The winners will also see their walk in print in a new free walking magazine early next year.

Over the summer school holidays we encouraged residents to get out and about to discover the local area and nominate their favourite walks into the competition.  We had several categories of walks to ensure there’s a wide range to enter.

The competition is now closed.

Thank you to all who entered!  The judging panel was made up of the head teachers at the Deanery and Kingfisher Schools, the Wichelstowe LLP and Grahame Lee who heads up Step Out Swindon.  They looked closely at the entries to decide upon the winning walks.

And the winners are…..?

Congratulations to the following who submitted winning walk(s):

  • Dawn Manser
  • Becky Cox
  • Declan Murray
  • Andrea Turner
  • Wayne Farley
  • Chris Barry

Winner Andrea Turner and her voucher

Winner Becky Cox (and co-pilot son) with her winning voucher

Winner Dawn Manser (and walking companion, Bella the chocolate lab) with her Waitrose voucher

Winner Declan Murray with shy daughter Orla

Winner Chris Barry next to the canal, where he drives the Dragonfly boat through the summer.

What next?

We have worked the 8 winning walks into a magazine that is available free to residents in 2023.  Get a sneak peak of the magazine!

We lauched the magazine on Tuesday 30th May with a walk, leaving from outside Hall and Woodhouse.  There will be free copies of the magazine available at Wroughton, Old Town and Central libraries, or we can post copies out to you.

As well as the hard copy of the magazine magazine, the walking maps are available to download as PDFs from this website, and there are interactive versions that you can follow the route on your smartphone.  See: https://www.swindontravelchoices.co.uk/wichelstowe-interactive/
