Free cycle stands for Swindon
Cycling in Swindon is getting a boost as Life Cycle and Swindon Borough Council launch a new joint initiative offering free cycle stands to local organisations.
Funded by Active Travel England through Swindon Borough Council, and delivered through Life Cycle’s Take a Stand® programme, the scheme will provide eligible Swindon businesses, charities and community organisations with up to four Sheffield cycle stands, creating eight secure cycle parking spaces, with free delivery and installation included.
Why Take a Stand?
By removing the cost of installing cycle parking, the scheme makes it easier for people to choose cycling for everyday journeys. This supports healthier lifestyles, helps reduce carbon emissions, and encourages increased footfall to community organisations.
Councillor Mike Davies, Swindon Borough Council, says:
“The Take a Stand scheme is a fantastic way for small organisations to provide cycle parking for their staff, visitors and customers, which in turn helps those individuals to travel sustainably, making a more pleasant environment for everyone. Finding the funds to install cycle parking can be prohibitive for small organisations and charities, so having the cycle stands available at no cost removes this financial barrier. I would encourage any organisation that has space to take up this brilliant offer.”
Bernadette Thomson, Take a Stand® Coordinator at Life Cycle, adds:
“Providing free cycle parking removes a real barrier for organisations that want to support cycling but don’t have the budget. Thanks to Swindon Borough Council’s support, we can help more local organisations make sustainable travel easier and more accessible for everyone.”
How to apply
Swindon organisations can apply for up to four Sheffield cycle stands (eight spaces), with delivery and installation included. Applications are open until all stands are allocated, and demand is expected to be high, so early applications are encouraged! Please help us spread the word and share with any organisations you think could benefit.
