Basic home cycle maintenance course.
A free morning course at Eastcott Community Hall, Savernake Street, Old Town to learn how to do basic checks and minor repairs to your bike.
The course is run by Lew lawton, a respected bike mechanic and cycle trainer in Swindon. Participants bring their own bikes along to this hands on course, which will cover:
- A few basics recording facts about the bike (important to ensure correct spares are purchased)
- How to clean and lubricate the bike
- How to do pre-ride bike checks – explaining what is being checked, why and what things to look for. Explaining why some jobs requiring expensive tools are best left to the local bike shop or professional mechanic.
- Repairing punctures – A practical session with a few ideas on how to reduce risks of punctures
- Brakes, adjusting cables and brake blocks
- Adjusting gears
- How to check the chain, as some gear issues are down to worn chains
Free tea and coffee will be provided.
