Walking is an excellent form of exercise which can keep you fit and active and improve your mental health. Walking can also help you recover from illness as well as prevent it. The Ramblers provide advice on walking with a variety of health conditions or disabilities.

The Disabled Living Foundation provide advice about walking equipment such as walking sticks, frames, rollators and trolleys.

Shopmobility is a scheme that enables people with temporary or permanent walking difficulties to get about in Swindon town centre.

Members of the scheme can hire vehicles and walking aids that allow them to access the shops and facilities that Swindon offers. The town centre provides good access for wheelchair users and those with walking difficulties, with numerous dropped kerbs, regular crossing points and widened pavements.  Annual or day membership is available.

Shopmobility Swindon is able to provide equipment including:
  • electric mobility scooters
  • power chairs
  • manual wheelchairs (in various sizes)
