Wichelstowe Walking Competition launches on Monday
Swindon Borough Council and Wichelstowe LLP have launched a competition to find the best 8 walks in the Wichelstowe area, with entries open from Monday (18th July 2022).
Over the summer, we’re encouraging residents to get out and about to discover the local area and nominate their favourite walks into the competition. The winning walks will get featured in a new magazine that will be distributed free to all residents. Each person that nominates a winning walk will receive a £50 Waitrose voucher.
The idea came about following a survey with new residents in the Wichelstowe area, in which many said they wanted more maps and opportunities to walk. The competition allows the local community to get involved in sharing their favourite walks, and is one of the travel plan initiatives for the area.
The walks can be entered in any of the following categories:
- Short walk under 2 miles
- Medium walk under 4 miles
- Long walk up to 8 miles
- Buggy friendly walk
- Pub walk
- Nature walk
- History / Heritage walk
- “Hidden gems” walk
The competition is open to anyone who lives, works or visits the borough. It runs from Monday 18th July to Friday 2nd September. To enter, there is an entry form at www.swindontravelchoices.co.uk
Judging will take place in September with the winning walks announced later in October. The new magazine will be available from the New Year.
