Highworth Walking Competition launches on Monday

Swindon Travel Choices has launched a competition to find the best 8 walks in the Highworth area, with entries now open (7th July 2025).

Over the summer, we’re encouraging residents to get out and about to discover the local area and nominate their favourite walks into the competition.  The winning walks will get featured in a new magazine that will be distributed free to all residents.  Each person that nominates a winning walk will receive a delicious hamper from local deli, Bloomfields Fine Foods.

The idea came about following surveys with new residents in housing developments across Swindon, in which many said they wanted more maps and ideas on where to walk.  The competition allows the local community to get involved in sharing their favourite walks with people who are new to the area, and is one of the travel plan initiatives for the Backhouse Highworth and Honeymans Helm developments.

The walks can be entered in any of the following categories:

• Short walk under 2 miles
• Medium walk under 4 miles
• Long walk up to 8 miles
• Buggy friendly walk
• Pub walk
• Nature walk
• History / Heritage walk
• “Hidden gems” walk

The competition is open to anyone who lives, works or visits the borough.  It runs from Monday 7th July to Friday 5th September.  To enter, there is an entry form at https://www.swindontravelchoices.co.uk/home/highworth-walking-competition/

Judging will take place in September with the winning walks announced later in October.  The new magazine will be available free to residents from the New Year.
