Come on a free Guided Tour of the GWR Factory works
The Swindon Designer Outlet consists of the Grade II Joseph Armstrong Workshops constructed for the Great Western Railway in Swindon. This tour takes you on a journey of the premises and ancillary buildings and gives you a flavour of what it was like to work in the factory during this period and beyond. Using photographs and memories provided by ex-workers we paint a picture of how the factory was so influential to everyday life in Swindon. Especially the neighbouring district of Rodbourne where the majority of the population worked in the factory through the years. The history of the works iconic hooter is also illustrated and its impact on everyday life in Swindon and the wider industrial scene in the country.
The time taken for the tour is approx. 2 hours and the meeting place is the Reception Area at the Kemble Drive entrance at 1000 hrs.
