More Travel Plan success for Swindon!

Four Swindon organisations are celebrating after gaining accreditation for their travel plans.  Drove Primary School and Holy Cross Catholic Primary School both attained the “Good travel plan” level, whilst the Vicarage Gardens site in South Marston renewed its “Good” travel plan status for a second three-year period.  The Oakfield development on Marlowe Avenue upgraded from “good” to “very good” following plenty of activity over the past year.

The travel plan accreditation comes through national organisation, Modeshift, which is a centre of excellence for the delivery of effective travel plans.  Their Modeshift STARS Education, Business and Residential schemes recognise organisations that have shown excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable and active travel.

At Oakfield, the residential travel plan means that the residents that are moving into their new properties on the Marlowe Avenue development all get a comprehensive pack of travel information, along with the offer of free bus and rail taster tickets and a scheme to borrow a bike.  The travel plan, funded by the developer, also sees events being run, such as the Bike Week roadshow, during which dozens of residents were able to get their bikes security marked and checked over by a bike mechanic.

More information about the Oakfield travel plan can be read in the case study.

Other organisations and sites already accredited include Wichelstowe, the Great Western Hospital, the George Gay redevelopment on Queens Drive, Swindon Borough Council offices, Stanton Chase, the Windmill Hill Day Nursery, Redlands Grove and both the Backhouse housing developments in Blunsdon and Highworth.
